True or Faux

"Dark colors make a room feel smaller”.

True! Light colors reflect light making rooms appear lighter and airier. Dark colors absorb light which can make a room feel smaller. However, dark colors also make a room feel cozier and richer. It takes boldness to paint a room in a rich chocolate and love it! Don’t worry about making a room feel smaller… worry about making it feel good to live in. Reds, oranges and yellows are great to warm up a room. They are also great colors for kitchen, dining rooms and living areas. They provoke eating and conversation and instantly make people feel at home.

"Keep your ceiling light to make the room feel taller"

True! Light ceiling do make the room feel taller… however… is a tall room really of value to you? I am a firm believer that the ceiling is the 5 th wall and the most overlooked wall in the house! Faux finished ceilings are beautiful and a hidden surprise in a lot of rooms. A soft glaze adds a great ambiance to a small powder room. Or a fauxed medallion over a dining room table adds interest to an otherwise boring wall. If you prefer straight paint on the wall, I suggest to not use white… instead try a color a shade or two lighter than your walls. Or, have your local paint store mix your ceiling paint the same color as your walls but at ½ the strength. You’ll be amazed at how much warmer your room will feel.

“Faux finishing isn’t durable enough for children”

Faux! Faux finishing is very durable and can easily be wiped down to erase any PB & J fingerprints you may find on your walls. A Textured faux finish is a great way to make a high traffic more durable as well. WE recently did a textured finish on most of a homes first floor for a family with 5 boys. Now that’s durable!

“Faux finishing will smell in my home”

Faux! Years ago, most faux finishing was done with oil based paints which does make an odor in your home. However, today’s faux finishing products are mostly water based and odor free! No need to worry about the smell, it is no stronger than your basic paint smell.

“I shouldn’t texture any walls in my home for fear it will scare off potential home buyers when we sell later on”.

Faux! I am a firm believer that you should “live” in your home while you are living there. IN other words, make it yours… it is your castle… your get a way from the pulls of this world. Nothing is permanent i… faux finishing can either be painted over or sanded down years down the road. Do to your walls what you feel comfortable living in! And remember, faux finishing adds value to the resale of your home. Potential buyers love that you invested in your home’s décor!

“I cannot afford to have professional faux finishing done in my home”

Faux! The price range of faux finishing a room can range from a few hundred dollars to the thousands of dollars. We are committed to finding out the scope of a client’s projects and determining how we can make the project happen for them. If you are working within a budget we can look at specific finishes to fit your financial needs and we often have homeowners base paint and tape for us in order to save them a few dollars.

“ I can faux finish my home myself”

True! Most people are certainly capable of doing a beginning faux finish in their homes. We encourage people to do that. It’s just paint! Go for it! However, we want to work for those clients who are interested in customized, in depth finishes that would take years of practice to achieve. We are very proud of our training and our years of experience in very high end projects. We are confident that our portfolio and reputation of clientele in the Kansas City area speaks for itself. If you don’t want to try a room yourself, or have problems doing so… please give us a call.
